Science Olympiad

Skyway Elementary is located in the shadows of Cheyenne Mountain, in the southwest part of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Cheyenne Mountain is home to NORAD and the world-famous Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The historic Broadmoor Hotel is also nearby.

The Skyway staff believes that CHARACTER is the foundation upon which everything else is built. We emphasize character trait words every month.  August is "caring," September is "respect," October is "responsibility," November is "kindness," December is "teamwork," January is "manners," February is "fairness," March is "helpful," April is "trustworthy," and May is "citizenship."  We recognize students for their efforts in practicing these character traits by catching them being good. Students who are caught practicing these desired traits may receive "Comet Blue Slips" for positive behaviors. We also recognize students through our Shining Star Program. Each month, two students from each class are recognized for their citizenship behaviors and attitudes.

Skyway Mission:
To provide a school community, and foster an environment, in which everyone is safe, happy, and challenged to learn and grow to the best of their potential; where foundations of academic, emotional, social, and physical preparation are laid to face tomorrow's challenges; where respect and integrity are fundamental.  Above all, Skyway embraces a leading educational experience where learning is a shared passion.

The Skyway staff and student body will be safely viewing the solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st between 11:40 and 12:00.  Lunch will still be served, following an alternate schedule, and NASA approved viewing glasses will be provided for all students.  Opt-out forms will be sent home on Thursday, August 17th and must be returned no later than Monday morning (8/21) to ensure we honor the request.  An alternate setting will be provided; make sure students still come to school, despite your opt-out choice.  Call the office with  additional questions (475-6150).

The first Parent Teacher Organization meeting is Tuesday, August 22nd from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Skyway Library.  All parents are welcome to attend all meetings.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Come one, come all!  Our annual Back-to-School event is Thursday, August 24th from 6:00-7:30 PM.  Teachers will host two separate sessions informing parents of all the many details you need to know about school at Skyway.  PTO officers and our School Accountability Chair will be available to answer any questions you may have about their role in making Skyway a great place to be and what you can do to support our efforts.
